The man in front of you is Mr Justin Okwir the inspiration behind the formation of the foundation. He fought for and educated all his children and sponsored many relatives to attend school but sadly. He so sadly passed away on the 28th of September 2012. The formation of The Okwir Foundation was to honour and continue with the work that he started many years ago.
Akara primary school was where his journey began and therefore became the natural choice for where his work is to continue. He was married to Mrs Dynaa Atto Okwir and together they raised 10 children. Worked tirelessly to educate all through difficulties but through his struggle, he managed to put many other children and young adults back into the education system.
The foundation works very closely with Akara primary school, the youth of the community and with the Mama Dynaa Centre for the elderly. The foundation has collected books and other scholastic materials for the school. In our first year 2013, we had two volunteers from the UK teaching primary seven children English. This year we have four volunteers travelling to Akara to do the same. The volunteers will also participate in all work that needs doing for the school and the elderly.
The Okwir Foundation is a community based organization and all our work is to try and improve the lives of the people in this community. We are only in our second year and learning a lot as we go a long to help us improve on our goals.
Mr and Mrs Okwir believed in compassion for others and very strongly instilled all that it stands for in all the children. He always said, if you’ve got two spoons and a neighbour needed one to give a child medicine, just share give them one and your are still left with a spoon.
Our foundation is very young and still growing please support us by donating to our causes. We also have a community day which will be celebrated every year to bring the whole community together to enjoy our culture and to give them feedback on our achievements for the year. Our community day will always fall on 3rd of September of every year. This date has a huge significance as it is the birthday of Mr Justin Okwir.
YOU ARE ALL WELCOME TO CELEBRATE OUR COMMUNITY DAY.
